A fourth Group, "Service" operations primarily comprises logistics, construction, engineering support, and related services. Tosoh combined its Specialty Materials and Electronic Materials divisions into the new Advanced Materials Division. Tosoh is a key supplier of such fundamental chemicals as caustic soda, calcium hypochloride, and sodium bicarbonate, which are used in applications that range from swimming-pool disinfectants, to food products and pharmaceuticals. As Japan's largest producer of caustic soda, Tosoh uses its superior process technologies to take advantage of economies of scale which realizes a true competitive advantage that can be passed on to customers. A unique oxychlorination process has also allowed Tosoh to maintain the largest production capacity of VCM in Japan. For the cost-efficient concentration of resources and expertise, these services have been set up under an autonomous group that supports the rest of Tosoh's business groups as they provide products and services to customers. Service Group companies are constantly working to improve the quality of their operations. Tosoh Logistics received ISO9001 certification for all its quality control systems at nine sites in Japan and Tosoh Analysis & Research Center also received ISO9001 certification, covering three sites in Japan.
