Market-Driven Global Operations
Tosoh Creates Global 'Electronic Materials Division'

Tokyo, Japan - Tosoh Corporation announced today the reorganization of its 'Specialty Materials & Electronics Products' and 'Quartz Products' Divisions into the newly formed Electronic Materials Division (TEMD), effective as of June 27, 2003 headed by Shinji Kurata as President. Through this reorganization, Tosoh Corporation brings its broad range of materials expertise to bear on the development of new products and solutions for semiconductor, flat panel display and materials markets worldwide.

The new Electronic Materials Division will consist of two businesses: Quartz and Thin Film Materials. The Quartz business provides many different types of synthetic and natural silica glass materials and products manufactured by Tosoh SGM, and fabricated quartzware manufactured by the Tosoh Quartz companies. All affiliated quartz fabrication companies were unified in 2001 under the Tosoh Quartz name. This unification made it possible to provide our global customer base with uniform high-quality products and services.

The Thin Film Materials business includes the manufacture and sale of a wide range of high purity deposition materials and accessories for the semiconductor, flat-panel, and other related markets and encompasses the global Tosoh SMD network, Tosoh SMC (Speciality Materials Corporation) in Japan, and Tosoh SET, Inc., in the United States. Tosoh SMD and Tosoh SMC manufacture and market PVD* and CVD* deposition materials to the global semiconductor, flat panel, and specialty markets. Tosoh SET provides PVD, CVD, etch and CMP* Process Kit Management(TM) services for the semiconductor industry.

Through constant innovation made possible by Tosoh's formidable development capability, Tosoh Electronics Materials Division will provide the materials to enable the technologies of the future.
