Tosoh Announces Price Increase for Bromine Compounds
Eroding Market Prices and Rising Costs Drive Adjustments

Tokyo, Japan – Tosoh Corporation announced price increases for bromine compounds effective for all shipments worldwide.  A Company spokesman stated that it was necessary to implement a price structure that could support investment for stabilizing future supplies, and cover the losses caused by years of eroding market prices.  These factors, combined with a tight market for the feedstock bromine and increasing costs for energy, transportation and raw materials, resulted in a price increase of 30% for high-purity alkyl-bromide compounds.  Products include 1-Bromo-3-chloropropane, n-Propylbromide, n-Butylbromide, sec-Butylbromide, 1-Bromo-3-chloro-2-methylpropane and (2-Bromoethyl) benzene.  The Company attempts to maintain profitability internally were overshadowed by rising external costs and long-term erosion of market prices over recent years.

Tosoh Corporation is the sole manufacturer of bromine in Japan and is developing operations domestically and abroad with its high purity hydrobromic acid (HBr) gas and elemental bromine (Br2).  Based on strengths such as a totally integrated manufacturing plant for 1-Bromo-3-chloropropane, the Company continues to expand as a world supplier of high-value fine chemicals.  Elemental bromine and bromine compounds are vital raw materials contributing to the production of pharmaceuticals, flame retardants, electronic chemicals, dyes, and many other applications that support the backbone of daily modern life.
