Tosoh to Raise Prices for Brominated Fine Chemical
Rising Costs Overshadow Profitability

Tokyo, Japan – Tosoh Corporation, the sole manufacturer of bromine in Japan, announced a price increase on 1-Bromo-3-chloropropane for all shipments worldwide.  The minimum delivered price on a full container shipment (20 metric tons) will become 5.00 Euro/kg (DDP) effective April 1st, or as contracts allow.

“The increase is in line with the rising value of bromine-related markets and although recent prices have better reflected costs, steep increases for raw materials and logistics have overshadowed attempts to implement acceptable returns,” said Dr. Katsumi Sando, General Manager of Tosoh’s Organic Intermediates business.  Rising external costs and long-term erosion of market prices resulted in a price structure that could not support investment for stabilizing future supplies.

Tosoh Corporation as a leading manufacturer of bromine is developing operations domestically and abroad with its high purity bromine (HBr) gas.  Based on strengths such as a totally integrated manufacturing plant for BCP, the Company continues to expand as a world supplier of high-value fine chemicals.  Elemental bromine and compounds are vital raw materials contributing to the production of pharmaceuticals, flame retardants, photographic chemicals, dyes, and many other applications that support the backbone of daily modern life.
