Tosoh-Developed System Aids in COVID-19 Variant Detection Breakthrough

Tokyo, Japan—Tosoh Corporation is pleased to announce that its 2.5D Cell Culture System® was key to groundbreaking research on COVID-19 variants. A research team co-led by Professor Shimpei Gotoh, Department of Clinical Application, and Junior Associate Professor Kazuo Takayama, Department of Cell Growth and Differentiation, at Kyoto University’s Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA) used Tosoh’s system to distinguish variants of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). This breakthrough research was published in the American journal Stem Cell Reports on March 29, 2024.

Tosoh will continue to further develop the 2.5D Cell Culture System to support research for advancements in drug discovery and regenerative medicine.
