Nanyo Complex Vinyl Chloride Monomer Plant Accident and Fire (Sixth Release)

Tokyo, Japan—We sincerely apologize for the trouble we are causing due to the recent accident at the Nanyo Complex No.2 Vinyl Chloride Monomer Plant to residents and officials of the surrounding area and the many affected parties. 

The information below is the current status of our operations at Nanyo Complex as of January 24, 2012. Operations below are those that have made substantial progress since the previous (fifth) release on December 5, 2011. Investigation of the accident site by authorities continues.

1. The following operations are active:

Tosoh SGM Corporation
Located in the vicinity of the No.2 Vinyl Chloride Monomer Plant, quartz materials manufacturing subsidiary Tosoh SGM Corporation sustained damage to its synthetic quartz manufacturing facilities and its shipping department in the accident, but has recovered and operations are gradually restarting.

2. Active operations that were mentioned in the previous (fifth) release continue to be active.
