Notice Regarding Unusual Noise and Electrical Accident at Tosoh’s Nanyo Complex

Tokyo, Japan—Tosoh Corporation reports that on Friday April 6, 2018 at 10:35 an accident happened at its Nanyo Complex, Cogeneration Plant, Special High-voltage Substation, Tower No. 3. During planned work at the substation, a ground fault occurred, leading to a power outage at the complex and the resulting emergency shutdown of several plants at the complex. These emergency shutdowns happened without trouble but caused unusual noises that worried the local community. Tosoh Corporation hence conveys its deepest apologies for causing alarm to the local community and other stakeholders in relation to the unusual noise and electrical accident. Nature of occurrence: A ground fault occurred during construction work on Nanyo’s in-house power plant, leading to a power outage.

At the time of the ground fault, one person was injured through electrocution.

As the power plant engaged in emergency shutdown, safety systems were triggered which released high-pressure steam and this caused unusual sounds but this is part of the procedure and the power plant shut down normally.

Manufacturing facilities powered by the in-house power plant were also safely shut down.
